Changing jobs, relationships, becoming a parent, or any major shift that's left you feeling unmoored.
When worry feels constant, or things that used to feel manageable suddenly don't.
Difficult or traumatic experiences you're ready to process, at your own pace.
Not every reason to seek counselling is a crisis. Sometimes it's simply wanting a steady, non-judgemental space to think out loud.
Sessions built around you - a steady, confidential space to talk through anxiety, relationships, grief, or whatever's weighing on you, without judgement or a script to follow. Using an integrative, person-centred approach, we work at your pace, following what actually needs attention rather than a fixed programme.
Benefit: clarity, practical coping tools, and the steady experience of being truly listened to.

EMDR uses guided eye movements to help your brain reprocess difficult or traumatic memories, so they lose their emotional grip rather than staying frozen in place. It's structured but gentle - you're never asked to relive an experience in detail, just to let your brain do the reprocessing it's naturally built to do.
Benefit: real reduction in distress tied to specific memories, and a felt sense of moving forward.

Sessions in and around the sea - swimming, bobbing, or simply floating - combined with reflective coaching, mindfulness, and peer support. As you walk into the water, things naturally quieten. Entirely at your own pace: use a float if you're not a confident swimmer, or simply pop your feet in.
Benefit: reduced mental overload and real emotional relief, helped by blue space's effect on mood.

Therapy on the move - out in the North East countryside or coastline, walking side-by-side rather than sitting face-to-face. That shift alone makes hard conversations feel easier: less eye contact pressure, more natural pauses, and the rhythm of walking helps thoughts surface more freely.
Benefit: lower pressure, the wellbeing boost of movement and fresh air, and an easier way into hard things.

Ema-Lou draws on person-centred counselling, CBT, EMDR, and mindfulness-based approaches, shaped around what actually helps you, not a fixed formula.

Counselling and psychotherapy is a collaborative process between you and Ema-Lou to explore what's going on for you - your emotions, thoughts, and patterns - in a safe, non-judgemental space.
Common signs include feeling overwhelmed, persistent low mood or anxiety, trouble functioning day-to-day, or facing something that feels too much to carry alone. You don't need a crisis to start; curiosity is reason enough.
Yes. Everything discussed in sessions is confidential, with the only exception being if there's a risk of serious harm to you or someone else.
It depends entirely on you. Some people come for a few focused sessions around a specific issue; others prefer ongoing weekly support. We'll shape it around what you actually need, not a fixed programme.
A non-judgemental, supportive, and confidential space where you can be yourself and heal at your own pace.
